Patient care is the top priority of all health care providers in Tennessee. For medical care to be successful, the patient’s individual needs and desired outcomes must be the common denominators in all decisions surrounding treatment and care. Unfortunately, when medical professionals or staff are negligent, their patients suffer the consequences.

Medical Malpractice Lawsuit

Recently in another state, a medical malpractice lawsuit was filed over claims that a woman’s death was caused by negligence. Apparently, the woman visited a hospital for treatment and was injured as she was being discharged. According to the lawsuit, the woman was an elderly fall-risk patient and was not supposed to put weight on her right leg. Allegedly, upon discharge the woman was given a walker by the hospital.

The lawsuit asserts that hospital personnel called a taxi to transport the woman to the rehab facility, but no medical staff accompanied her to the vehicle. It was further alleged that the woman fell as she attempted to get into the vehicle, causing her leg to split open. The woman lost a great deal of blood and had to be transported to a larger hospital where she died a week later, according to claims.

Legal Recourse

Regardless of circumstances, suddenly losing a loved one is difficult and often devastating. When a loved one is lost due to the negligence of another party, the resulting trauma can be overwhelming. In cases like this, immediate family members of deceased victims in Tennessee may have the right to take legal action. By speaking with an attorney and filing a wrongful death claim, family members could pursue recovery of the monetary damages they rightfully deserve.
