To safely operate a motor vehicle, the driver must always remain focused and attentive. Unfortunately, far too many people in Tennessee seem to take driving for granted and get behind the wheel while intoxicated. Driving under the influence of alcohol is one of the most dangerous and reckless things a person can do.
Authorities believe a recent head-on crash in Knoxville that claimed the life of a womanย may have been caused by a drunk driver. The accident happened at night on Schaeffer Road in West Knox County. According to accident reports, a Saturn SUV crossed the centerline of the roadway and crashed head-on into an Acura SUV. Police said the driver of the Saturn SUV was driving erratically on the wrong side of the road.
Reports said both drivers were injured and were taken to a local medical center for treatment. The Saturn SUV contained three passengers. Two of the passengers were injured while another died at the scene of the crash, authorities said. Reportedly, the deceased passenger was the daughter of a Knoxville councilman. Police said speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the accident and charges are pending.
Despite awareness campaigns and tireless efforts from law enforcement, driving under the influence of alcohol is a problem that continues to plague Tennessee. Those who have suffered injuries or the tragic loss of an immediate family member inย motor vehicle accidents caused by negligenceย have the right to obtain a legal representative and pursue damages. A successful lawsuit could result in rightful compensation to victims and families.
